Division Improvements

Dear Little League Parents,

As our league continues to grow, and as our Board continues to study all aspects of the game to improve our players’ development and passion, change is sometimes required. In that regard, we are excited to share some important updates.

Last year, we had 400 players registered in our league, and while this is a testament to the enthusiasm for the sport, these numbers bring challenges related to, among other things, maximizing player skill improvement, balanced roster construction and competition, and scheduling. With that in mind, we have made a few changes to enhance our program this season in these areas and others.

Machine Pitch Division Changes
We are transitioning the machine pitch division for 7 and 8-year-olds (born in 2016-17) to a coach pitch division. This division will additionally introduce the opportunity for player pitching in the latter portion of the season. This will allow players to begin learning the fundamentals of pitching earlier while doing so gradually and while not compromising fielding or hitting development.

Minor Division Changes
We are also splitting the current 9/10-year-old minor division into two separate divisions: 9-year-olds (2015) and 10-year-olds (2014). The 9-year-olds will now have the opportunity to develop their pitching skills in a supportive environment alongside their peers. This division will feature no walks, with coach-pitch relieving the player pitcher after throwing four balls. While reducing competition for mound time with the 10-year-olds, this change will allow more 9-year-olds to greatly increase their pitching skills.

The 10-year-old division’s gameplay will remain unchanged from previous seasons.

Important Dates
Registration Deadline: March 1

Players who have already registered will be moved to the appropriate division.

Evaluation Day for 9-12 year old players: Sunday, March 16, at South High School. Evaluation registration slots between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. will be sent out soon.

7/8-year-old team assignments: As in the past, these players will be assigned to teams based primarily on their age and home school.
