Inter-league Play Added to GPLL Schedule

Grosse Pointe Little League Softball has adjusted its Major and Minor Division schedules to add games against teams from two neighboring softball leagues. No Machine Pitch games were affected.

The Lac St. Clair Little League Softball and the Clintondale/Fraser Little League Softball are both having problems attracting enough girls for their respective leagues to play a full season. Organizers for both leagues asked Grosse Pointe if it would be willing to schedule some games with them so they could have a season. Without these games against the Grosse Pointe teams, both of those leagues would fold for the season - and possibly for good.

The proposal was presented to all the Grosse Pointe league managers and was unanimously approved by all present. The Grosse Pointe LL board and managers feel it is the right thing to do for a number of reasons. It is an opportunity for the girls to see some different faces, play different positions, and experience some inter-community competition; it will help continue to build the strength of Little League softball in the Grosse Pointe district; and it will grow the game by keeping more girls playing softball.

Most importantly, when Grosse Pointe Little League Softball was a fledgling organization, Lac St. Clair helped the league grow by scheduling some games so Grosse Pointe could play a full season.

Here are the details:

For the Majors Division, each Grosse Pointe LL team will play one game against the two Lac St. Clair Majors teams and the one Clintondale/Fraser LL Majors team.

For the Minors Division, each Grosse Pointe team will play one game against the two Lac St. Clair Minors teams and the two Clintondale/Fraser Minors teams.

All the games - Majors and Minors - will be at home, at Grosse Pointe fields. Grosse Pointe Little League softball rules will be followed. The games won’t count in the league standings, and the Lac St. Clair and Clintondale/Fraser teams won’t participate in the playoffs.

Any issues that arise will be addressed and fixed, and the schedule will be adjusted as needed.
